Honoring your parents is not all about adoring them and speaking good things about them. Giving honor and respect are beyond words. Listening is also a way of honoring your parents. The bible says, “listen when your father corrects you. Pay attention and learn good judgment.” You may not follow their footsteps. You may not become completely like your parents. But when you listen to their teachings and learn from them, you are actually following them.
Although listening may seem simple and common, it is actually deep and influential. When you listening, you are not just lending your ears to the speaker, but you are also opening your heart and mind to the message that the speaker is telling you. That is how you do when you listen to your parents. You do not just hear their words. You actually plant them in your hearts and cultivate them in your soul.
The wise King Solomon shared his wisdom with the world. He said: “My child, listen when your father corrects you. Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor around your neck.” Your parents are not perfect for sure. They have flaws. They have shortcomings. They make mistakes. But this does not mean that they are not worth listening to. Their imperfections do not make them less of a person. Everyone is imperfect.
