Wealth Can Ruin You Spiritually

Transfer of Treasure

“And you shall again obey the voice of the Lord and keep all his commandments that I command you today. The Lord your God will make you abundantly prosperous in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of your womb and in the fruit of your cattle and in the fruit of your ground. For the Lord will again take delight in prospering you, as he took delight in your fathers, when you obey the voice of the Lord your God, to keep his commandments and his statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, when you turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 30:8-10 KJV)

Money is the root of all evil. Material possessions are attained through money. Wealth can turn our backs away from God. There are many things money can buy, thus blocking our minds from God. It then makes us more dependent on money rather than of the power of the Lord.

The Word of God teaches about money, but the pursuit of money is not what God intended. Many are teaching prosperity the correct way, and we should thank God for that. Though unfortunately, in the pursuit of money, some have gotten into false preaching and got totally lost. Jesus said in the Book of Revelations, “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.”

The world’s definition of prosperity is “worldly success”. But, God means it differently. He brings prosperity through His peace and favor. When God favors you, blessings will abound. You need not hold a million bills just to get rich, God can do that for you when He gives you His favor.

The Christian world has fallen for deception. They try to get rich and obtain financial stability. There is nothing wrong with this when you still put God in the center of everything. You need to let His grace manifest in your life. You need to let His will be done in your life. You need to know what you value in order to attain God’s prosperity.

Biblical prosperity is being blessed by God. He doesn’t pertain to worldly riches. When believers start to have financial wealth, they begin to forget God. Then, their spiritual riches get ruined. The blessing coming from the Lord adds no sorrow in it.

Proverbs 3:7 says, “There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.”

Money is a great deceiver. It makes us closer to the enemy. Which one do you prefer: getting rich in this world we live in? Or getting rich in the kingdom of God? Your answer defines what you value most. Think about it.

Remember what God said in Proverbs 10:22? It says, “The blessing of the Lord – it makes truly rich, and He adds no sorrow with it, neither does toiling increase it.” You need to know what you value in order to attain God’s prosperity.
