Miriam and Aaron talked against Moses behind his back because of his Cushite wife (he had married a Cushite woman). They said, “Is it only through Moses that God speaks? Doesn’t he also speak through us?” God overheard their talk. (Numbers 12:1-2)
It is clear that Moses did not hold a grudge on Aaron and Miriam for speaking of him in a negative way. He forgave them right away and even begged God to help them. Like Moses, we are encouraged to forgive those who gossip about us.
We should not take the negative things others say about us too seriously, nor should we hold it against them in the long-run. This is because no matter what someone says about you, it should not matter for so long as you are being true to yourself and to God. In the end, it is they who have to suffer for their gossip. It is they who have the problem, not you.
We should not let our ego or pride become too affected by the words of others. We should instead take the higher path by continuing to live our lives freely and authentically, while forgiving those who cannot seem to accept us.
