Book of 2 Timothy: The Account of Paul Addresses Timothy

The Book of 2 Timothy: Rise above your fear

Rise above your fears

The book of 2 Timothy is a letter of St. Paul to Timothy. The first chapter begins with Paul addressing Timothy as his son in the Church.

2 Timothy 1:3-7 reads: “I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with a pure conscience, how unceasing is my remembrance of thee in my supplications, night and day longing to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also. For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands. For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness, but of power and love and discipline.”

In the passage above, Paul states that the same faith that was of Timothy’s grandmother and mother, are in Timothy as well. He states that God instilled in them both a spirit that is not fearful but loving and disciplined. Many people live their lives in fear. They dread loss, defeat, and pain. This fear keeps them from living life fully.

He states that God instilled in them both a spirit that is not fearful but loving and disciplined.

They limit their actions and interactions in order to ensure that they are never at risk of getting hurt. The problem with their mentality is that they are not embracing the many possibilities in life. Their fear blinds them from the good things they are actually capable of creating.

Instead of letting our fear run our lives, we should be living in love and discipline. We should be focusing on creating honorable possibilities out of our love for God, our neighbors, and ourselves. We should be disciplined enough to turn away from the fear and evil that may cause us to abandon our causes.

Their fear blinds them from the good things they are actually capable of creating.

Like Paul and Timothy, all of us have been empowered by God and given opportunities to make positive changes in the world, through the spirit of love and discipline. Do not live your life in fear.

Instead, open up your eyes to the many possibilities, and actualize these. It will bring about true joy and fulfillment. Open up your eyes to the many possibilities, and actualize these.
